Berlin to Helsinki Day 4: Łeba

We weren't totally sure of our final destination when we set out today. We kind of dilly-dallied in the morning having already done more than 320km (200 miles) in 3 days and slept in a little.
When we came downstairs, Gabi's wonderful mother had set out a beautiful breakfast and had another surprise for everyone - while she was out walking the dog, Reggae, she came across a guy who was passed out in a field. The dog ran to him and she brought him home to help him out. She said that she is used to rescuing dogs and cats from the street (that's where Reggae comes from) so she figured she could do the same with a person. She and Gabi described the man'd condition as "tipsy" but lets be honest, he was drunker than a pirate on with full barrel of grog - this was a Polish guy who most likely had just consumed a barrel of vodka. I was dismayed as the good hearted nature of the mom was unrecognized by this guy who couldn't string a coherent sentence together in any language, let alone sit up straight. Mylène at first tried to engage him in a conversation about, well, anything. To no avail, eventually her mom banished him from the kitchen and ordered him to go sleep. Since I am barely ever awake in the morning, this was probably the most exciting breakfast in recent memory.
Then we left, leaving the very kind family behind. Sarbinowo is very charming, at least in the summer, and Gabi and her mom were really relaxed and easy going. Her mom is a teacher at the elementary school in town and has been there since the 80s.
The entire coast line seemed to be under construction. Everywhere we went they were building up roads and paths and boardwalks. All of the people in these beach towns seem to be Polish, they aren't resort places with 5-star hotels. They are mostly simple places with cookie-cutter boardwalk arcades with the main focus on the beach.
One feature I had never seen before was the little wall that each family built around themselves, either for wind and sand, or maybe just to make a secluded spot for themselves on the beach:

So we left a little after noon. And we decided on the furthest destination on the map in order to see the dunes. But then that meant riding 152km (91 miles) to get there! So after leaving it was a lot of biking to get there. Unfortunately we arrived just after sundown and the need to eat precluded visiting the dunes, we will have to go in the morning.
I feel pretty sturdy but I will be glad to have a rest day tomorrow in Gdansk!

I do laundry every day, but there's no tumble dry setting in the sink so I put it in the sun on top of my bags.

Last look at Sarbinowo.
