Berlin to Odessa Day 6: Węgry
After a great full day in Wroclaw in which we passed about 50 churches in one afternoon, hung out on "Party Island" and grabbed a fine microbrew at Spiz with our couchsurfers, we headed out early to meet up with our couchsurfers in Opole.
They actually live in a cozy little village called Wegry, with about 1000 inhabitants just 10km outside Opole.
Our Joanna (Asia) and her sister (Kasia) live in a house with their grandparents, parents, and uncle. The house is always bustling with activity and has an upstairs and downstairs kitchen. So it smells great wherever you go. Asia's first question to us upon arrival was, "Would you like to see my favorite place in the world?" Couldn't pass up an offer like that. So we biked to Jezioro Srebrny (Silver Lake). A lake hidden inside a dense forest. We arrived just as the sun was setting on what was a gorgeous and hot day. There were some voices of other people barbecuing around the area but we were the only ones in the lake. The full moon rose above the trees, bathing the entire lake in a silvery glow. The water was warm and we just hung out on the sand and in the water for hours. Kasia showed us some traditional Polish dances, the Walcek and the Szcznia Gorale (no clue on the spelling, sorry!) since she dances in a traditional group.
We were immediately welcomed and integrated as members of the family. They insisted that we stay another day, so it was difficult to refuse. It was Asia's birthday so we got to make the rounds to some of her family in the countryside by bike, and partied with her and her friends late into the night.

One of the bike-themed decorations in Asia's room. It was a wrecked bicycle wheel, so she turned it into a lamp. |
